Executive Functioning

Every student’s program at Villa Maria School is individualized to their specific learning needs. While our students have diagnoses such as dyslexia, ASD, ADHD, specific learning disabilities, and receptive and expressive language disorders, we look beyond the labels to create a specific program based on their individual strengths and weaknesses.

Building Lifelong Learners

At Villa Maria School, we believe that academic success and personal growth go hand-in-hand. That’s why teaching executive functioning strategies is not a separate curriculum, it is woven into the fabric of everyday learning. We prepare students to think strategically and manage themselves independently, so they are able to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Executive functioning skills are the cognitive processes that help students:

  • Plan and organize
  • Manage time and materials
  • Prioritize and initiate tasks
  • Monitor and adjust their work
  • Sustain attention and regulate emotions

Impact on Students

Our students graduate not only with strong academic foundations but with the confidence and executive skills necessary for success beyond Villa Maria School. They become:

• Independent thinkers
• Strong problem solvers
• Effective planners
• Resilient and adaptable learners

Every student receives individualized Executive Functioning (EF) goals designed to meet their needs. In elementary school, EF skills are seamlessly woven into the school day. As students grow, support becomes more structured. Middle and High School students participate in a dedicated Study Skills and Executive Functioning Class that builds independence and real-world readiness.
